Skillet Ham Barbecue Recipe
Similar recipes: Ham“I started making this recipe in the 1960s as a new bride trying to stretch the food budget. We like to entertain and this dish pleases everyone.
Ingredients
2 tbsp butter or margarine
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
2 tbsp white or cider vinegar
1 tbsp mustard
1 cup ketchup
1 tbsp Worcestire sauce
1/2 cup pineapple chunks (strained and reserve 1/3 cup juice)
12 ounces ham or canned luncheon meat (Spam) cut into 1/2-inch strips
1/2 cup green bell pepper strips
Cooked rice, noodles, or hambuger buns
Directions
In a large skillet melt the butter and cook the onion until soft but not browned. Stir in the brown sugar, vinegar, mustard, ketchup, Worcestire sauce and the reserved pineapple juice. Add the ham, pineapple, and bell pepper strips. Simmer uncovered for 15 minutes. Serve over rice, noodles, or toasted hamburger buns.
Tips from our test kitchen: Drain the excess juice before serving this dish on hamburger buns. This is an excellent use for left-over ham and is also good on flour tortillas.
